On Wednesday 12th November 2014, local winners of the National Lottery met at the National Watersports Centre in Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham to celebrate the 20th birthday of the National Lottery. Winners worth in total over £100 million came from all over the East Midlands to be interviewed by the media and to enjoy a buffet lunch.
Sandra and I often attend these functions, so we set off after breakfast to make the 40 minute journey. Heavy rain and traffic meant that we arrived later than planned, so there was no time to settle in before I did my first interview with Nigel Bell from BBC Radio Nottingham.
As expected, I was asked the usual questions, but Nigel did express an interest in my weather station and asked me if I would be prepared to discuss the weather on the station in December. I, of course, agreed.
After this, the assembled sat down for coffee while the press interviewed and photographed winners from their area. All the winning couples were photographed individually indoors before venturing outside for group photos.
Afterwards, Sandra and I only had a few minutes to enjoy the buffet before we had to say goodbye as BBC East Midlands Today wanted to do a few shots at home.
We arrived home in time to greet BBC presenter Jo Healey and her cameraman Andy. We did a brief interview in the back garden and Andy took shots of the house, gardens and chickens. After coffee, Jo and Andy were on their way and I had chance for a brief sit down before I had to head back in to Nottingham for my last interview.
This time, I was on the sofa at newly launched Notts TV. This was the first time they have covered a Lottery event and it was also the first time I had appeared on live television. I did two brief interviews with presenter Frances Finn before I was heading back home again at the end of a busy day.
