Alta day 5 – time to go home

I awoke on my final day in Alta to temperatures well into minus double figures. After another substantial breakfast, it was time to pack my case and head back to the UK.

The manager of the hotel remarked that he had seen me on television the night before and offered to send me the local paper which was carrying an article about my visit.

A short journey to the airport followed, and in no time, I was on my way to Heathrow, via Oslo. The journey was unremarkable, and it wasn’t until I reached Leicester that I encountered any delay, caused by an accident on the motorway.

I arrived home about 20:00 to be greeted with cold winds and driving rain – a stark contrast to the weather in Alta.

I will never forget my holiday in the Arctic Circle, and the warm welcome of the people of Alta. I must admit that I left the town with some sadness and I could easily have stayed longer. One day, I will return to the lovely town of Alta.
