For the last couple of months, there have been very few new posts on the site. The main reason for this inactivity is that it’s the time of year when the garden and meadows need to be tidied up, weeded and generally transformed back into something to be proud to show visitors around.

Apart from cutting the paddocks, tracks and paths, as well as preparing the vegetable patch for the new season, by far the biggest job has been the jet-washing of the patio. This is no normal sized patio, and the size of it is partly the reason it has never been cleaned in almost four years since it was laid.

The patio slabs we decided upon when the landscaping project was started in 2010 was mint fossil sandstone paving. This paving originated in India and is so-called because there are fossils within the sandstone, making each piece, and each patio, unique. They looked superb four years ago, but grime and mould has built up over these years, leaving the slabs with a distinct grey colour.

It has taken the best part of a month to complete the task, doing a couple of hours work when the weather was fit. Today, the task was finally completed, and all that remains is to replace the damaged slabs, and re-grout. This will be done over the next few weeks.

To show what a transformation the jet-washing has made, here are some before and after photographs of the front of the property.

Now that the patio has been restored to something like its former glory, I hope that regular cleaning will remove the rest of the ground-in dirt that remains. I hope my efforts have been worthwhile.
