Farmers and growers in the area were relieved to see the New Year starting off on a dry note. Waterlogged fields and gardens were given some respite from the almost non-stop rain when only 0.4 millimetres fell in the first week of 2013.

Precipitation was recorded on the 1st and the 3rd, with 0.2 millimetres each day. This compared with the previous first week low of 2.6 millimetres set in 2010.

January is one of the driest months at Bracken House and 2013 is on course to beat the record monthly low of 30.8 millimetres, also set in 2010, but there’s a long way to go.
