On February 19th 2013, the hedge to the front of the house was finally restored to some sort of order. Already well overgrown when we moved in, the hedge had reached the roof of the house in places and contained two dead trees.<\/p>\n

After seeing the work of Tree Hugger and Son<\/a> on a friend’s Facebook page, I asked them to quote for the work. For cutting back of the hedge and removal of the trees, they quoted \u00a3330, which I thought was a little expensive. However, I didn’t know at the time that it was going to take 12 man hours to complete the work.<\/p>\n

The hedge was cut back to about six feet in height and the dead trees were sawn into logs to create a log pile in the meadows. They even cut me a couple of suitable branches to use as roosts in the chicken run, and left me the chippings to use as a mulch and to place between the gates in the fields.<\/p>\n

The new log pile is already full of insects and will provide a haven for mice, hedgehogs, frogs and other small mammals.<\/p><\/div>\n

When the hedge at the back of the house was laid, a spindly holly bush was uncovered, which is now filling out into a decent tree. A similar holly was discovered on the front which in time should develop into a good feature.<\/p>\n

I was delighted with the work when it was completed, and booked them in to reduce the height of the hedges at the back of the house to make them easier to maintain. All that remains to do is fill the gaps with some young bushes and look forward to a nice thick hedge in a couple of years time.<\/p>\n
