April 2017 was the driest month ever recorded here with only six millimetres of rainfall. Winds were the lightest ever in April and temperatures were equal to the average.

The highest temperature in the month was 21.4°C recorded at 14:43 on the 9th, the highest temperature since 24.8°C was recorded on September 15th 2016. At 05:35 on the 25th, the temperature fell to -1.9°C, equalling the lowest April temperature ever here set on April 2nd 2013. The average temperature in the month was 8.5°C, exactly the same as the April mean. The average daily high temperature was 12.9°C, also the same as the mean, with the average daily low temperature being 4.4°C (0.1°C below the mean). The warmest day was the 9th with an average temperature of 13.4°C. The coldest day was the 25th with an average temperature of 3.5°C. There were two frost days.

The highest dew point was 13.4°C recorded at 14:36 on the 9th, with the lowest being -4.9°C at 20:44 on the 24th. The average monthly dew point was 4.7°C, 0.1°C below the mean. The high wind chill was 21.4°C at 14:43 on the 9th, with the low wind chill being -2.0°C at 01:24 on the 25th. The average wind chill in the month was 7.8°C. There were 188.62 hours of sunshine in the month, with the sunniest day being the 23rd with 9.81 hours.

Rainfall in the month total only 6.0 millimetres on 10 days, making it the driest month ever recorded here. The previous driest month was April 2011 when 6.8 millimetres was recorded. April’s overall rainfall average of 35.2 millimetres makes it the third driest month here, behind September (28.8 millimetres) and March (35.1 millimetres). So far in 2017 there has been 109.4 millimetres of rain. The wettest day was the 14th when 1.6 millimetres was recorded. The highest rain rate was 8.4 millimetres / hour at 01:06 on the 28th, the lowest maximum rain rate for any month. No snow was recorded in the month for the fourth successive year.

The highest barometric pressure in the month was 1036.8 millibars at 11:24 on the 19th. This was the highest ever recorded in April, beating the previous high of 1036.4 millibars set in 2015. The lowest barometric pressure was 998.6 millibars at 19:00 on the 30th, the highest low pressure in April. The average pressure was 1021.0 millibars, also an April high.

Winds in April were low, with the average wind speed being 4 mph and the average gust speed 6 mph, both equalling the month low. The highest wind gust was 29 mph at 17:39 on the 24th, with the highest average wind speed being 16 mph at 17:14 on the 30th. The average daily maximum gust speed was 18 mph and the average daily maximum wind speed was 9 mph. The total wind run in the month was 2719.3 miles with the predominant direction being 217°

The maximum high solar radiation recorded at 12:04 was 1139 w/m², the highest since 1151 w/m² was recorded on July 14th 2016. The average solar radiation for the month was 158 w/m². The highest U.V. Index was 4.7 at 12:40 on the 20th, the highest since 4.8 was recorded on September 6th 2016.
