March 2017 was the warmest March ever recorded here. Temperatures were 2.0°C above the average. Rainfall was above average and no snow or frost was recorded. This was the first March that the minimum temperature was above freezing. Winds were stronger than average.

The highest temperature in the month was 18.3°C at 17:24 on the 30th, the highest temperature since 20.3°C was recorded on September 28th 2016. The lowest temperature was 0.5°C at 02:12 on the 2nd. This is the highest minimum March temperature ever recorded, beating the previous high of -0.3°C set in 2012. The average temperature in the month was 8.0°C, the highest ever for March, beating the previous highest of 7.9°C set in 2012. The average daily high temperature was 11.7°C (mean 9.8°C), with the average daily low temperature being 4.7°C (mean 2.6°C), another March record. The warmest day was the 30th with an average temperature of 14.2°C, with the coldest days being the 1st and 5th with an average of 4.4°C. For the first time ever in March, no frost days were recorded.

The highest dew point was 13.2°C at 14:39 on the 30th, with the lowest being -3.4°C at 22:55 on the 25th. The average monthly dew point was 5.4°C, 2.2°C above the mean. The high wind chill was 18.3°C at 17:24 on the 30th, with the low wind chill being -3.0°C at 02:33 on the 2nd. The monthly average wind chill was 6.7°C. There was 108.58 hours of sunshine in the month, with the sunniest day being the 24th when 8.36 hours was recorded.

The total amount of rainfall recorded in March was 47.6 millimetres on 17 days, 12.5 millimetres more than average and the second wettest March ever recorded here, beaten only by the 49.2 millimetres recorded in 2016. The wettest day was the 5th when 9.0 millimetres was recorded, the highest since 20.8 millimetres was recorded on November 21st 2016. The highest rain rate was 100.2 millimetres / hour at 10:00 on the 20th. For the fourth successive year, no snow was recorded in the month.

The average barometric pressure in the month was 1012.4 millibars. The highest pressure was 1034.8 millibars at 00:07 on the 25th, with the lowest being 983.3 millibars at 13:23 on the 5th. The average humidity in the month was 85%.

Winds in March were slightly below average with the maximum wind gust being 32 mph at 14:06 on the 19th. The highest average wind speed was 21 mph at 14:10 on the 19th. The average gust speed for the month was 7.9 mph and the average wind speed for the month was 5.4 mph. The average daily maximum gust speed was 20 mph and the average daily maximum wind speed was 11 mph. The total wind run in the month was 3903.7 miles with the predominant direction being 191°

The maximum high solar radiation recorded at 14:05 on the 31st was 895 w/m², the highest so far in 2017, and the highest since 904 w/m² was recorded on September 11th 2016. The average solar radiation for the month was 96 w/m². At 13:42 on the 30th, the U.V. Index reached 2.7, the highest since 2.8 was recorded on September 29th 2016.
